COVID

URGENT: National Lockdown Implications                                                                                  4th January 2021

Dear Parents,

I am informing you with a heavy heart that, from tomorrow, school will not be open to all pupils.

The Prime Minister has announced this evening that schools will only be open to children of critical workers and those children deemed vulnerable.

As you know, earlier today we sent a questionnaire to ascertain which of you fall into the critical worker category. The response has been overwhelming. The intention of the Government is that schools return to the situation we were in in March, where we physically accommodated 10% of our pupils (20 children).  Such numbers will allow us to facilitate and deliver a quality education that is fair to all, within a safer environment. We cannot, therefore, accommodate all of the children whose parents fall into the category of critical workers.

Given the notice that the Prime Minister has given us, we will open as usual tomorrow ( including Breakfast club and After School Club) for all vulnerable children and for the children of critical workers who have absolutely no alternative but to send their child/children to school. We will then be contacting all those parents who are critical workers to ascertain the necessity for their child to be in school. If you can make alternative arrangements for your child/children, then it is imperative that you do so.

As you will appreciate, the staff will need time tomorrow to plan and organise the remote/ blended learning that will be put in place. With this in mind, they will not be able to provide any remote / blended learning until later this week. The staff will not be delivering their normal lessons to those children in school until they have been able to establish their blended/ remote learning programme. Whilst I apologise for this, I am sure you recognise the challenges that the lack of notice has left us with.

As you will be aware, the purpose of school closures is to minimise the transmission of the virus between households. Whilst the symptoms of COVID are not as severe in children, they can still transmit the virus to adults. Therefore, where possible, the safest option will be to make alternative arrangements for your child to stay at home.

Yours Sincerely,

Fiona Cottam
