Fun with Chicks

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 1 Year: 2020 - 2021

During the Easter holidays, one of the children from our class had the amazing experience of hatching baby chicks at home.  After the chicks had hatched, she kindly offered to bring her bundles of joy into school to share with the class. It was such a wonderful experience for the children.  When they arrived, we placed them on the tables for the children to observe them and if they were feeling brave, even hold them.  Later on, we took the chicks outside for our math lesson to find out if all chicks weighed the same or were the same height.  Using balancing scales and rulers, we discovered that all the chicks were different.  After lunch, we then decided to investigate their food choices during science.  Most of the children thought the chicks would prefer to eat digestive biscuits but we were all surprised that they only like the birdseed!! It was such a fun day for everyone.
