Science in the Forest

Class: Year 1 Year: 2023 - 2024

Year 1 decided to take their learning outside into the forest area to explore our five senses.   

Sight - Colour Matching - we gave the children different coloured swatches and challenged them to find items in the forest that closely matched that colour.

Touch - Hug a Tree - We encouraged the children to find a tree to hug and asked them questions such as  - is it rought or smooth?  Hard or soft?  Can you feel a pattern?

Smell - Woodland perfume - we gathered around the fire pit and smelled different objects and the children were asked to figure out what the smell was.

Taste - a woodland picnic - we tasted salty, sour and sweet foods.
