Flourishing through wellbeing

Life in all its fullness

At Aughton St Michael's, we are committed to ensuring that every child flourishes academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Guided by our Christian vision, we place wellbeing at the heart of school life and work closely with children and families to provide the support they need to thrive. We use the myHappymind programme to help children develop self-awareness, resilience and positive mental health, alongside targeted wellbeing interventions and access to play therapy where appropriate.

Children benefit from a wide range of opportunities that promote healthy lifestyles and personal development. These include specialist music teaching, outdoor learning experiences, participation in competitive and inclusive sporting events, and initiatives that encourage regular physical activity and wellbeing. We believe that every child should be encouraged to discover their strengths, develop confidence and experience success, enabling them to become the very best version of themselves.

Through an environment of encouragement, guidance, support and celebration, we nurture happy, healthy and resilient learners who are equipped to flourish both now and in the future.

MyHappyMind

MHMAt Aughton St Michael's, we use myHappymind as part of our commitment to nurturing positive mental health and wellbeing for every child. This whole-school programme is based on the latest research in neuroscience and psychology and helps children develop resilience, self-esteem, emotional regulation and positive relationships. Through a series of engaging lessons and shared language, children learn how their brains work, how to manage their emotions and how to develop the skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.

We actively use the additional information and resources provided through the programme to identify strengths, support individual needs and inform our wider wellbeing provision. We recognise that wellbeing is most effective when school and home work together, and we strongly encourage parents and carers to access the myHappymind parent resources and app. This enables families to reinforce key messages at home and supports a shared approach to building happy, confident and resilient children.

Through myHappymind, we help our pupils understand that they are uniquely valued, develop confidence in who they are and acquire practical strategies that enable them to flourish academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Junior Parkrun

Promoting physical and mental wellbeing is an important part of our vision for flourishing. We are proud to have developed a strong partnership with Junior Parkrun, encouraging our children and families to take part in regular physical activity beyond the school day. Through their enthusiasm, commitment and community spirit, our pupils have achieved the distinction of being the highest-attending school at the local

Junior Parkrun, demonstrating the positive impact that working together can have.

This initiative reflects our values of resilience, community and perseverance, while helping children to develop healthy lifestyles, confidence and a sense of belonging. By celebrating participation, personal achievement and encouragement of others, we strive to create opportunities for every child to flourish both within and beyond the school gates.
